Community Engagement Officer

Salary: £39,545 - £41,151 per annum

Hours: 37 Hours per week 

Contract: Fixed term contract for two years

Location: Service Headquarters, Huntingdon 

Hybrid Working - we offer a flexible, agile, hybrid working pattern where you can work from home, where diary commitments allow, as well as from Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service locations around Cambridgeshire. This role will involve travelling around the county and working with different communities but working from home can be an option for administration and planning time. 

 

About the role 

We are looking for an enthusiastic, self-driven and community-minded professional to help ensure that our vital messaging and service information reaches everyone living and working across Cambridgeshire and Peterborough. In this role, you will coordinate our community engagement activities, working closely with under-represented and seldom-heard groups to build strong relationships, promote inclusion, and make sure our messages reach all parts of the community in the right way.

You’ll play a key part in shaping and delivering engagement strategies that break down barriers, strengthen trust, and promote equality, diversity, and inclusion in everything we do. From organising events and outreach initiatives to supporting our fire crews and teams with meaningful engagement activities, you’ll help ensure that all communities have access to the information and opportunities they need to stay safe and thrive.

About you:   

We welcome applications from all backgrounds and experiences, and the ideal person will have relevant experience in a public engagement or public facing role. They will also have:  

  • Proven experience in building and maintaining professional and collaborative networks. 
  • Proven track record of working effectively with data sets to analyse and focus campaign work effectively.
  • Proven commitment to the principles of inclusion and fairness with awareness of the impact of different cultural backgrounds, values and customs.
  • A proven ability to think creatively and work collaboratively to achieve positive outcomes based on clear objectives.
  • Good time management and organisation skills to prioritise work and manage expectations. 
  • Excellent communication skills, with a proven ability to communicate and engage effectively with diverse audiences.
  • Excellent people skills, with proud track record of establishing and maintaining effective working relationships. 
  • Proven ability to build professional and collaborative networks with community leaders, groups and partner organisation colleagues.  
  • A high level of self-motivation and energy to drive own workload and achieve desired outcomes.
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft 365 - Word, Excel, Powerpoint and Outlook, and ideally Sharepoint.
