Lorry fire - A1 Northbound - Peterborough

At 2.50am on Tuesday (28) crews from Dogsthorpe, Stanground, the Peterborough Volunteer Fire Brigade, a water carrier from Ramsey, and a crew from Stamford in Lincolnshire were called to a lorry fire on the A1 Northbound between Fletton Parkway and Wansford.

Firefighters arrived to find a collision involving two lorries, and they were both well alight. Wearing breathing apparatus, they used hose reels to extinguish the fire.

The carriageway was closed so crews could carry out their work and so the lorries could be recovered and moved away from the carriageway.

The crews left the scene by 9am, with the lorries being recovered and taken to a local depot.

The road is still currently closed for recovery and resurfacing works. This is likely to be for most of the day.
