Firefighters welcomed a royal representative to their station as the High Sheriff of Cambridgeshire dropped into Wisbech Fire Station.
Francis Burkitt DL visited the crew on Friday (July 3) as part of his role to celebrate and thank emergency services staff across the county.
Starting off with a chat with the duty crew, the High Sheriff explained the history about the role and how it has evolved over the years. He was then given a tour of the fire engine, with the crew showing off the different kit and explaining what it is used for.
The crew then provided a tour around the training building, used to practice rescue techniques. Goggles were provided to simulate smoke logged conditions and reduced vision. Finally, he got to practice with a hose reel.
Wisbech Watch Commander Rob Wabe said: "It was great to have the high sheriff visit us. He was really interested in the kit we carried on our fire engine and the range of rescue incidents we attend. He enjoyed having a go with the equipment and seeing our searching techniques at fires in buildings. The crew enjoyed learning about the high sheriff role and its historical importance."
