Scooby rescued by Huntingdon firefighters

Firefighters with dogCrews from Huntingdon Fire Station came to the aid of a stranded labrador on Friday (June 12).

Firefighters from blue watch, along with a crew of on-call firefighters, were called at around 11.45am to reports of a dog stuck in a brook in Alconbury.

A fire service spokesperson said: “Scooby had gone for a splash around in the brook near the playing fields, but struggled to get out due to the steep banks.

“Thankfully, we were able quickly locate him and managed to bring him safely back up the bank, to reunite him with his owner.”

The crew were back at their station by 12.30pm.

One of the crews that attended this incident was made up of on-call firefighters, who respond when they are needed to emergencies around their other commitments. When needed they will drop everything to get on a fire engine to help people, and animals, in their local community.

To be an on-call firefighter you need to be within five minutes of your local fire station, either while at work or at home, and have a good general level of fitness. We are actively recruiting more on-call firefighters at stations around the county, so if you can respond to emergencies and help your local community, visit our Careers section.
